A washer and dryer are ready for removal when both drums are empty, the washer is drained, hoses and cords are secured, any gas connection has been handled by a qualified technician, and the route is wide enough for the units.

Drain the washer before moving day

Run the final drain cycle according to the manual, shut off the water supply, and have the hoses removed and drained into a bucket or tray. Leave the washer door open long enough for the drum and gasket to dry. Residual water adds weight and can spill when the machine is tilted.

Treat gas dryers as trade work

A gas dryer needs qualified disconnection before hauling. Do not rely on the removal appointment for gas-line work. An electric dryer should also be unplugged safely, with the cord secured so it cannot drag beneath the dolly.

Measure the laundry closet, not only the machines

Record each unit’s width, depth, and height. Then measure the closet opening with the doors fully open, the turn into the hall, and every doorway after it. A stacked unit needs extra attention because the pair may have to be separated before it can move.

Clear lint, storage, and floor obstacles

Remove baskets, shelves, detergent, and anything stored on top of the machines. Clear the route to the exit and point out floor transitions, steps, soft landscaping, or narrow gates that affect how a dolly can travel.

Send useful information with the request

List whether the dryer is gas or electric, whether the pair is stacked, where the machines sit, how many steps are involved, and how close a truck can park. Photos can help a provider understand the route, but only use a confirmed upload channel.

Pickup-readiness checklist

  • Drums and lint areas empty
  • Washer drained and hoses secured
  • Gas dryer professionally disconnected
  • Stacked configuration identified
  • Closet and hallway measured
  • Parking and step count noted
